Day 64

My husband was laid off on Feb. 3rd 2009 and this is his first day back to work......(he is working for Edward Jones.) Praise God!!!! We were prepared and did pretty good. We spent 25% of our savings. Now we will bring our 3-6 month savings back up to $20,000 and then start investing 15% for retirement.
I know I have typed this before, but when saving for your 3-6 months...don't forget to take in consideration that you will have to pay your own insurance. Our Cobra was $1100 a month. We opted to buy our own insurance from Blue Cross and that costs a little over $500 a month.
Be Intense, Work Hard, Be Prepared

My husband and I facilitated Financial Peace University and last night was the last class. It was 13 amazing classes with incredible people.

$51,132 saved~ 40% of class reporting
$9,000 of items not purchased because we are all gazelle intense.
Wow! I will update totals as they change.

Day 49

How true the below verse is. What a great reminder to above all else seek the Kingdom of God. Whether you are climbing your mountain of debt, find yourself with no job, or are already debt free to always seek God first. As we struggled through our mountain of debt, found ourselves laid off, and praise God employed again, it is seeking God above all else that sustains me day in and out. And on this Resurrection Sunday I am in 'awe' of my God that died on the cross and rose 3 days later.
I choose Christ because I believe when He stayed on that cross my name was on His mind, your name was on His mind. And in those trying times in life I know I can rest in the nail pierced hands....the hands that stayed on the cross for me.
"...your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need." Matthew 6:32-33
Happy Resurrectin Sunday!
and don't forget no coupons in the paper, take this day to praise our AWESOME GOD.

Day 46

Great Tips from Awesome Readers!

I just bought 4 cans of Pringles (the large cans) for $3.45 (incl.tax) They were $1.50 at Dillon's plus my .50 from P&G eSaver and I had two $1 off coupons from the paper.
Also, you may have heard of the magazine 'All You'. Well I ended up with a subscription from a fundraiser and was thrilled at all the coupons inside! The BEST one was the FREE Rimmel Curves Mascara ($6.47). My subscription is out and I thought today to see how much it costs at Wal-Mart (2.49), then I checked out the list of coupons inside before I bought it (usually in the last few pages of the magazine) and there it was, the FREE Rimmel Mascara AGAIN! So, I got it (April 17th issue) because the freebee pays for the magazine AND you get 50 more coupons inside! Woohoo!!!
"Click here for 2 Free Preview issues. I just signed up for mine.....Thanks Renee"

I wanted to share this bargain. I was in Target and saw a bunch of Clinical Protection Dove deodorant for $3.98. If you go onto the Dove website, you can print off a $2.00 off coupon, dropping the price to $1.98! It normally retails for $7.99. I got 3@3.98=$11.94-$2 coupon=$9.94, barely more than the regular price.
"Click here to print coupon~I was able to print two.....Thanks Christie"
Please share any deals....email me or leave a comment!

Day 42

{I have an amazing friend, her name is Tina.} She has always been responsible with her money and always been debt free. She is the reason I am able to write this blog. About 3 years ago, in tears and in my freak out state I asked permission from my husband if I could sit down with her and see if she could guide us in the right direction with our finances. She sat me down.... gave up a couple hours of her day.... and point blank said I can't help you unless you get rid of some of your payments. She helped me write a budget and sent my on my way. {Boy did she help me!} {She was my accountablilty partner.} After lots of prayers, tears and freak out sessions, my husband was on board and we knocked out $48,000 of debt in a little over 18 months. God used Tina in my life to forever change our family tree. Tina....I will forever be grateful to you for being a true friend and having the courage to give me a wake up call. Do you have a {"Tina"} in your life?
The whole point of my story is find an {accountability partner.} If you are single find a friend who is wise with their finances. If you are married, your spouse. If you know me or not....I would be honored to help you get on track. I am just an email or phone call away. Ask away!

Guest Post~

by my money savy friend.

My favorite money saving tip is your public library!
Hours of great entertainment can be found there for free.
Activities and classes for all ages.
Great books to read and stimulate the brain and imagination.
Movies to check out instead of rent.
Music and audio books for your listening pleasure. Think about your next road trip.... Listen to that book you've been wanting to read.
Our local library has the card catalog online. I can go online and check for the item I am hoping to check out and see if it is available.
Most libraries also participate in inter-library loans. If they don't carry the book, they will contact other libraries to see if they do. Your loan time might be a little more restrictive and you might have to wait a little longer, but it is FREE!!
While at your local library stop and see if they have a copy or two or three of THE TIGHTWAD GAZETTE
An absolute must read. A compilation of their issues over the years on frugality.
It will stimulate your creativity and get you thinking of new ways to save money.
Think you are already frugal, just read one of the volumes of THE TIGHTWAD GAZETTE and see what new ways to save you can learn. Just so you don't think this is dry reading, there will be many things to chuckle over. Things you might say NO WAY to, and yet others that make you go hmmm, and ahhhh over.
Just remember to return your library treasures on time to avoid late fees.....thanks Heather
She is so savy she sells on ebay, hop on over and check out her ebay here.

Gamblers Anonymous
by Rodger Thompson
Many of us who would not think of participating in the vice of gambling belong to a secret society I am calling "Gamblers Anonymous." No it is not a twelve step group for addicted gamblers, although many of us are probably addicted. I am talking about those of us who live on consumer credit. If you think about it, consumer credit is really a gamble. When we swipe that credit card or sign the loan papers for that new car, we are gambling on the chance that we will continue to be gainfully employed until we get the thing paid for. When we live just one paycheck away from being destitute we don’t like to think about all the things that could happen to take away our paycheck.
The present economic downturn in the nation has begun to come home to roost here in Wichita with thousands of layoffs. Compound that with inflation, the ever present possibility of a medical crisis or a disabling accident or any one of a dozen other things that could strip us of our earning power, and suddenly we are faced with serious financial dilemma.
The Bible warns us about living off of debt.
Proverbs 22:7 (NIV)
The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
The Financial Peace University with Dave Ramsey that meets here every Sunday afternoon at 4 pm is challenging many of us to eliminate debt and prepare our finances so we can face whatever might come with peace of mind. If we say we are trusting in the Lord to
provide for us it only makes sense that we would want to follow what he says in the Bible. The time to act is now. Anonymous gamblers, let’s come out of the closet and put our debt habit behind us forever.
Yours for financial peace, Rodger

Rodger is my pastor. He is an amazing man of God.

We hope to soon have summer dates for the next Finacial Peace University.

Geez it seem like today that we all know someone who has lost their job or it is yourself in that boat. Walgreens is offering free healthcare visits for our past, present, and future patients, and their families, who lose their jobs and are uninsured. Be sure to check this link out to see if your Walgreens is participating.
The kicker is.........individuals qualify if their job loss is March 31, 2009 and after.
Pass this on if you know someone in need.
