Day 156

Earlier this year the above child of mine cut my daughter's hair. I mean he cut all of it! It is growing out slowly but in the mean time we are taking her to get the back cut and stacked to keep the mullet look away.
I take her to Great Clips. A childs hair cut cost $10 but if you bring in your previous receipt you save $2.00.
Can't beat a $8.00 hair cut.

Day 155

Welcome to Just Between Friends
I love children's consignment sales. It is great one stop shopping. The prices are a tad higher than garage sales but very convenient to have the wide variety in one stop. One of my favorites is Just Between Friends. It is a franchise so check it out to see if the sales are held in your city.

For Wichita Readers:
Mulberry Bush Consignment is having their sale right now! I stopped this morning and found a couple treasures.
and don't forget Saturday many items are half off from 8-12

Dates: July 30 - August 1, 2009

Day 152

Another part cleaning up our financial disaster was making a will and making sure we had enough life insurance.
I feel at peace that our children will be taken care of if something would happen to us. It is all written out in our will and the life insurance money would take care of them.
We had a local attorney draw up our will but you can click here and here to see who Dave Ramsey recommends for both making a will and life insurance.

Do you have a will and enough term life insurance????

Day 151

What we cut to find that Extra Money when we decided we wanted to be debt free:

ItalicCable $60
Stopped Eating Out $100
Cell phone (we only have one...and I may be the last one on earth to not text...we just have basic cell phone features) $60
Clothing (garage sales) saved $50 a month
Sold Truck $500 payment
Grocery Budget (started using coupons, cash and a list) saved $300 a month

Savings every month= $1070
Now tell me that did not help pay some debt off :)

and you know something we are now debt free and we don't miss any of it and still do not have cable, just one cell phone, eat out only occasionally, and drive our paid for cars.

Day 144

Make your Own Laundry Detergent
.....thanks Heather

*1/2 bar of Fels Naptha soap (or 1 whole bar of Ivory soap)
*1 cup Borax
*1 cup Washing Soda
*1 TBS. GlycerinGrate the soap.

Heat on stove in 8 cups of water until melted. Simmer a few minutes to make sure the soap is thoroughly melted. Stir in remaining ingredients until all are dissolved. Add enough cold water to make 2 gallons. (I use a 3 gallon bucket to add the hot and cold mixture and then use a funnel to pour final product into a 2 gallon laundry jug). You will need to shake the jug before each use.

I am kinda of a laundry detergent snob. I always use Tide and stock up when it is on sale. But I did smell my friend Heather's laundry and it smelled pretty good. She also uses vinager for her fabric softner. Maybe just maybe someday I will give it a try!

P.S. I was told she bought all the ingredients at Wal-Mart.

You can read about Heather's adventure here

Day 141

These are my amazing kiddos. We are teaching them at a young age how to handle money. They are the reason we woke up and decided to no longer live paycheck to paycheck and throw our money away at car payments and who knows what else.
I warms my heart to know that we will leave them an inheritance and have changed our family tree.
In this house there is no allowance. If they want money, they earn money. If they disobey they lose money. Kinda of how the real world works :)
On Mondays we sit down with their charts and add up there commisions and then subtract their fines.
Then they put 10% in their give envelope and 15% in their long term savings bank. The rest is theirs!
I want to equip my children to be good stewards of their finances.

So how do you teach your children about money? I would love to hear.
Financial Peace Jr. for Kids (Ages 3-12)
If you have read this blog for any amount of time you already know I am a huge Dave Ramsey fan. You can click on the picture to see the system we use to teach our kids.
We only bought it because we were able to purchase it a great deal....thanks Janet

Day 137

What is Steep and Cheap?

At Steep and Cheap, we sell premium, core outdoor gear and clothing at prices that are downright criminal.

Here’s how it works:

  • Steep and Cheap sells one screamin’ deal at a time until it’s gone.
  • The deals are fat, so they sell out fast.
  • You have to act fast or you’ll miss it, but don’t stress—as soon as one deal sells out, we kick off another.
  • It’s back-to-back deals all day long.
This is a fun website. Click here to check it out.....thanks Angie!

Day 127

My Better Late Then Never Post
This is a picture of the 4th BRAND SPANKN' NEW vehicle that we purchased.
It cost $38,000 when we bought it in 2005 and came with a hefty payment of $550 a month.
October 2006 enough was enough....we were tired of living paycheck to paycheck!!!!! Throwing away almost $1000 a month on car payments.
We had two very nice vehicles and decided to keep one, pay it off and sell the other.
We said bye-bye to the Ram. We took a loss of $4,000 but $4,000 was sure easier to pay off.
We then bought ourselves a $900 Dave Ramsey car.
Well that $900 car just gave out on us a couple of weeks ago :(
So....

we took our $2500 we had saved for our next car and went car shopping.
Oh the" power of cash"
That is a picture of our $2500

this is the sticker off the van we purchased....$5998.
We saw it marked down on the internet and took a little road trip to check it out.
We took a little test drive and then went into the big fancy building, sat down with the car salesman and said we can offer you $2500.00 cash.
Of course he said that could not be done but he would talk to his "manager"
Of course the "manager could not do it."
I put my purse on my shoulder and said "thank you for your time."
Two more trips to the "manager" and the final price was $2500. $2500 total for everything taxes, and whatever fees they tack on.
Off to the business office to pay.....The businsess guy asked 3 times. Really cash?....like bills?
Yes. Cash.
The power of Cash.

Not enough light for a good picture but this a picture of our $2500 PAID FOR van. (Never thought we would ever own a minivan???!!!)

Will my husband be able to own his dream truck again?
Well of course....it will take a few more years, but it will be paid for in Cash!

God is good and always provides
