Day 124

Spend only $100??
Good News.....we were very creative and ate every piece of food we had. Our pantry and fridge were so empty that my boys really thought they hit the jackpot when they found Slim-Fast drinks. Seriously that is how empty the kitchen pantry was!
Bad news.....I blew it last week and went over my goal of only spending $100 for the month of June. My total will be closer to $200 but still not bad. My budget is $400 which means that the remaining $200 will be used to start replinishing our 6 monthsh living expense fund that we got into after my husband was laid off. He is back to work and we are working really hard to replinsh the 6 months living account back up to $20,000.

Day 118

Happy Father's Day
Let me tell you I have an incredible Dad! He is a good part of the reason that I find myself debt free today. Growing up he taught me how to save. He has always been a saver, never been in debt and pays cash for everything. He is my role model :) When we hit rock bottom with $48,000 of debt, he is the first person I called. I wanted to live my life as he had taught me. He listened, gave advice and cheered us on. Thank you Dad for loving me, teaching me and guiding me down all the roads of my life!
and
Happy Father's Day to my hubby, you are incredible Dad. The best!

Day 103

Here is a great question with tips on what to do when you are laid off......thanks Tina
QUESTION: Listener asks Dave to list things they should do when they are laid off. Dave doesn’t have a list, but is happy to give recommendations.
ANSWER: I’d say the first thing you do when you are laid off is you take your severance and put it in a pile and call that your emergency fund. Don’t pay any extra on any debts and stop adding to retirement and college accounts. Do a detailed budget of your household and cut your lifestyle to nothing, so your emergency money will last as long as possible. A lot of people don’t cut their lifestyle because they are already hurting, and don’t want the pain of a cut budget to go with the pain of losing their job.
As far as insurance goes, be on the hunt for life insurance if you had your insurance at the company. For health insurance, get a high deductible health savings account with a low premium.
For a 401k, roll them out directly into an IRA with a direct transfer rollover. If you have them send you a 401k check, they will withhold 20% on you. You only have 60 days to put in 100% of the money, but you only have 80%. Don’t cash out a 401k except to avoid bankruptcy.
Also, don’t be afraid to take part-time gigs to keep money coming in while you are looking for the permanent career change that this represents

Todays Project is a Hardware Sorter

The Home Depot's Kids Workshops offer useful projects including the creation of toolboxes, fire trucks and mail organizers, as well as more educational projects, such as a window birdhouse, bughouse or Declaration of Independence frame kit.The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children. In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons, and an achievement pin.

Bryan is going to take the kids for the first time this morning :)

and

I was listening to Dave Ramsey on my ipod while I was running jogging and he had a great call. The question was about what order to pay your debt off when you have bad, old debt that is in the hand of collectors
Answer:
Be sure to keep current with your current debtors and pay off from lowest to highest and then when your current debt is paid off.... you then tackle your old, bad debt. And you should be able to settle for pennies on the dollar on your bad debt.
So don't worry about old debt until you tackle your current debt.....thanks Dave
